Athletes and members of the sports community experience many normalized, sport-specific stressors and circumstances, in addition to the demands of life, that increase their susceptibility to mental illness and distress. This may include anxiety and depression, navigating self-worth and identity, burnout, injury, career transitions, substance use, and body image. Sports culture also creates numerous barriers to receiving help and care that require special consideration of individuals’ athletic identity. More than ever, it is critical that we empower athletes and coaches seeking assistance around mental health. Ardent Grove is excited to provide specialization in athlete mental health treatment with providers familiar with the sport's culture and the specialized needs of athletes.
